"Avatar" I believe we wanted to hold in reserve in case of something higher than Ascendant. If not, than I could see it replacing Elemental.

I can't see Element being replaced, though.

I think I'll side with DS here, at least as far as the triteness of the naming. Perhaps we could come up with more interesting names for the elements, so that we can at least to some extent set ourselves a bit further apart from other fantasy games? A new name for elementals could be pretty cool, too. Just my two cents. If I come up with any examples, I'll be sure to post them.

Wow... kind of a drastic change, but I'm all for it. I think it's great, and I don't believe that much has been worked out for the elements that it even scraps much work. Most races would still fit under those categories, for instance, with perhaps a little shifting.
